Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos issued a clear promise after defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League back in October and now he and his teammates have the chance to deliver on that.
Six months from facing them in the league stage, Luis Enrique's side will return to Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, April 29 for the first leg of their European semi-final with the return fixture coming eight days later in France.
while PSG survived a late Aston Villa comeback to advance.
Inter Milan and Barcelona will contest the other semi-final after beating German opposition in Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, respectively.
Having knocked out the holders, Arsenal will fancy their chances to go all the way or at least reach the final especially having beaten PSG already this season. with Marquinhos acknowledging that after the game.
“We had plenty of possession, but we didn’t move enough into the open spaces, and we need to be more aggressive and find the back of the net,” he told French outlet .
“In the second half, we controlled the ball, but we created very few opportunities. In the Champions League, we have to do better than that.
“We’re a team that likes to play with the ball and maintain possession. We try to draw the opponent in to create space and capitalize on it, but we didn’t manage to do that today. Every team has its strengths and weaknesses, and we paid the price for conceding goals.”
Eight of the starting XI against Villa were named from the off in that defeat to Arsenal but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele were two key absentees. The latter missed out though injury while the Georgian attacker was still at Napoli.
As for Arsenal, Arteta already knows one of the players that will be absent with
Havertz, who scored in the clash earlier this season, will also be unavailable because of injury with Gabriel Magalhaes as another that featured in that first encounter also set to miss out.
