The dreaded culprit of Mumbai attack Tahawwur Rana has finally been brought to India from America. After years of legal battles and diplomatic efforts, India has achieved great success in the extradition of this wanted terrorist.
But the hard work of the three Indian IPS officers behind this success has not only increased the pride of the country but also shown how talented and dedicated the officers who pass UPSC are.
Along with NIA
These three officers are associated with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and all of them are examples in themselves. Some are doctors, some are engineers and some have studied from IIT. Let us know about the three personalities associated with this operation, whose hard work brought Tahawwur Rana to India.
He left engineering and chose to serve the country
This operation was led by NIA Inspector General (IG) and 1997 batch IPS officer of Jharkhand cadre Ashish Batra. Born in Haryana, Batra chose the path of UPSC after studying engineering and was selected in IPS in 1996. He has done many operations in Naxal-affected areas and in 2018 he was also appointed IG of Jharkhand Jaguar. Currently he is working as IG in NIA.
Became IPS after doing MBBS
The second member of this team is IPS Jaya Roy, whose journey has been from MBBS to civil services. Originally from West Bengal, Jaya Roy studied medicine and then passed UPSC and became IPS in Jharkhand cadre in 2011. Since 2019, she has been working as a DIG in NIA. Jaya, who led the team that cracked down on cyber criminals in Jamtara, is today an important face of national security.
IITian turned country's protector.
The third member of this operation is IPS Prabhat Kumar, who has an engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur. Prabhat, who hails from Bihar, also worked in the private sector but the dream of serving the country brought him to UPSC. Prabhat, who became an IPS in 2018, is currently an SP in NIA and was also the coordinator of this operation.
