Vivek Oberoi, once one of Bollywood’s most popular stars in the early 2000s, has carved a unique path beyond films. While his acting career saw highs and lows, his journey as an entrepreneur has been remarkable. Recently, he shared stories from his teenage years that shaped his approach to business and money, including an early lesson in discipline that came from his first college date experience.

Financial lessons from his first romantic date

Son of veteran actor Suresh Oberoi, Vivek revealed that his entrepreneurial instincts were sparked during his time at Mayo College, where he received a pocket money of just Rs 500 from his father. He quickly learned the importance of managing finances when his first romantic college date exhausted his entire month’s allowance. This early experience taught him budgeting, responsibility, and the value of careful planning, lessons he considers foundational for his future success.

Vivek told NDTV Profit that as a teenager, to address the situation he launched his first venture, Care Bear Arch Bears, spotting a real problem in his target market and designing a solution himself. He managed every aspect, from sourcing the products to coordinating with manufacturers and preparing concept papers. The project turned out to be a massive success, earning him a net profit of around Rs 21,000-22,000 in just one day, a huge leap compared to his pocket money at the time.

This early success fuels Vivek’s fascination with entrepreneurship. He realised that making money was exciting, but building wealth and creating assets was far more important. He developed a philosophy of long-term value creation, prioritising partnerships with people who shared his vision of sustainable growth rather than short-term gains.

Over the years, Vivek applied these lessons to scale his business ventures, steadily building an empire that today is valued at an estimated Rs 1,200 crore. His approach combines passion, purpose, and careful planning.

On Vivek's professional front

Even as he ventured into business, Vivek balanced his entrepreneurial pursuits with his film career. He believes profits may only last a quarter, but purpose and long-term vision create lasting impact. His story demonstrates how discipline, curiosity, and early exposure to financial management can set the stage for enormous success later in life.

Vivek’s journey from a teenager struggling with pocket money to an actor-entrepreneur with a multi-crore empire shows that lessons learned early can have a lifelong impact. On the professional front, Vivek Oberoi was last seen in, Kesari Veer, which hit the theatres on May 16, 2025. Now, he is gearing up for his upcoming movie Masti 4. The film is all set to arrive in cinema halls on November 21, 2025.
