BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar said on Thursday that Murshidabad communal violence will have a major impact on next year's assembly polls.
"There was some kind of planning about Malda and Murshidabad. There was targeted mob lynching attempt on the Hindus in Murshidabad and that is evident from the three-member Committee’s report submitted in Calcutta High Court," Majumdar said, calling it a warning sign for the Hindus in Bengal ahead of 2026 assembly polls. Meanwhile, Trinamool blamed it for a twisted approach and mis-campaign.
“The report of the Committee of HC is the “Janam Kundali” of Hindus. If the Hindus are unable to read it now, they will perish going by the present trend,” Majumdar said.
Leader of Opposition in state assembly Suvendu Adhikari also slammed the Trinamool government and held West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responsible for the Murshidabad incident.
“Police did not take calls for four hours during the day of the incident. Through Calcutta High Court’s three-man committee’s probe and the truth that had come out is very alarming for West Bengal. Can you imagine which state we are residing in? The riots were conducted under the leadership of Mehboob Alam and MLA. These two sentences are enough to understand the situation on ground,” Adhikari said.
Adhiakri said, The Murshidabad related report that has come out and observation of a High Court appointed committee-it has been proved that in West Bengal, there is nothing called police. When fire breaks out, you call the Fire Brigade. That is the rule. Police did not take the call for several hours. If BSF was not there in time-hundreds of bodies of the Hindus would have been found, not only Hara Gobindo Das and Chandan Das were murdered.” Bodies of late Haragobinda Das and Chandan Das were found in Samserganj in Murshidabad. They were hacked to death in front of their family.
“I was the first applicant of the case when Murshidabad violence unfolded. The Chief Justice was instrumental in registering the case on a holiday. The victims have moved to Supreme Court. We hope the vacation Bench will listen to the case,” Adhikari said.
A three-member committee formed by the Calcutta High Court to probe the communal violence in Murshidabad pointed out in its report that the local police were “completely inactive” and stressed about involvement of local Trinamool Congress leader Mehboob Alam.
