A man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his wife dead in a busy market in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, police said.
Vishwakarma Chauhan was taken into custody at the scene shortly after the shooting. He allegedly killed his 32-year-old wife, Mamta Chauhan, following a dispute over their ongoing divorce case, according to police. The couple, married for 14 years, shared a 13-year-old daughter.
During questioning, the 34-year-old told police he felt "no regret" for killing his wife, claiming she was "eating away his money". Police said Mamta worked at a private company and lived separately with her daughter. She had been seeking child support and the transfer of farmland before agreeing to a divorce.
After a heated argument outside a shop, Chauhan allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot her twice. The incident was captured on CCTV.
Mamta was taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Their daughter later filed a police complaint, accusing Chauhan of harassment and extramarital affairs.
