Rajat Patidar slapped with Rs 12 lakh fine for RCB's slow over-rate against Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has been penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate during the last IPL encounter against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

Patidar contributed a stylish 32-ball 64 to his side's eventual total of 221 for five, helping his team beat MI by 12 runs and restricting them to 209 for nine.

The match saw RCB fall short of the required over-rate, leading to a fine of Rs 12 lakh for their skipper as per the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

This fine comes as a consequence of RCB's first offence of the season.

The slow over-rate has become a growing concern in the IPL, with teams facing financial penalties and potential disciplinary actions to ensure that matches are conducted within the stipulated time. Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant was fined, too, for the same offence against Mumbai Indians, last week.

"As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined Rs 12 lakh," stated an IPL media release.

Currently third on the table with six points, Bengaluru will face Delhi Capitals in Chinnaswamy in their fifth match of the season on April 10.
