Filmmaker Kunal Kohli has shared his experience of directing Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra during the shoot of his 2012 film Teri Meri Kahaani. The two actors, who had previously impressed audiences with their chemistry in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey, were reportedly dating off-screen at the time. Kohli reflected on the challenges and surprises of managing actors who are romantically linked in real life.

Challenges on Set
Speaking to Faridoon Shahryar, Kohli revealed that directing actors in a real-life relationship can be complicated. He explained that there were instances when the couple would not speak to each other, which created tension on set. “It’s actually not fun because there are days when they are not talking. Then, the director has to manage the situation,” he said. Despite this, he praised Priyanka Chopra for her professionalism, describing her as a dependable presence who consistently supports both production and the director.

Kohli emphasized Priyanka’s ability to maintain composure even in difficult situations. According to him, the actress exudes confidence and reassures those around her when challenges arise on set. He expressed admiration for her work ethic, saying she remains one of the best people to collaborate with and that he hopes to work with her again in the future.

The director also addressed whether real-life relationships enhance on-screen chemistry. Kohli clarified that genuine romantic involvement between actors does not necessarily translate into better cinematic spark. He insisted that chemistry should stem from a strong script and capable performances rather than personal relationships.
