Wind energy body pegs FY26 capacity addition at 6-7 GW

New Delhi: India could add 6-7 GW of wind energy capacity in the current financial year, higher than last year's capacity addition of 4.15 GW, according to Wind Independent Power Producers Association (WIPPA).

The wind sector has sailed through a turbulent phase and the pace of capacity addition has picked up in the last two years.

However, according to Central Electricity Authority, India is projected to have around 122 GW of wind capacity by 2032. With current installed capacity of projects marginally over 50 GW, it means an addition of around 10 GW is needed every year on an average.

Despite higher year-on-year capacity additions, project developers face major hurdles towards achieving wind energy goals, industry experts said.
