Haryana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a public rally in Haryana on Sunday, April 13, criticised the Congress party over the Waqf law, accusing it of enabling land mafias while ignoring the plight of Muslims.
The PM claimed that the law, in its earlier form, had been exploited for decades, which resulted in the denial of economic opportunities for the very community it was intended to help.

'Muslims Forced to Repair Punctures Due to Flawed Law': PM Modi
Taking a dig at the opposition, PM Modi said, “Had the Waqf law been effective and honest in its implementation, Muslims would not have been forced to earn a living by repairing bicycle punctures.” He argued that the law, rather than aiding the underprivileged, was used by land mafias to usurp valuable properties across the country.
PM Modi also added that several Muslim widows had written to the Centre highlighting the misuse of Waqf properties. “We took their concerns seriously and amended the law,” he said. The amended legislation, he noted, now prohibits the Waqf Board from laying claim to any land or property belonging to tribal communities across India, aiming to safeguard tribal rights while ensuring transparency.
Tight Security in Haryana Ahead of PM’s Visit
Earlier in the day, PM Modi landed at the Sarsawa Air Force Station amid heightened security arrangements. The Special Protection Group (SPG) assumed control of the security apparatus a day before his arrival, with movement within a 4-km radius of the airbase heavily restricted.
Local police presence was also intensified at strategic locations, and encroachments along Ambala Road were cleared in advance of the convoy’s passage. A temporary medical unit was also established at a secure location as a precaution.
Senior BJP leaders, including UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state BJP president Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh, were present to receive the Prime Minister.
