Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Turning Into No-Go Zone: The TTP's media wing has also released pictures of fighters taking over checkpoints, a symbolic and real challenge to the government's authority.
Government control is rapidly weakening in some tribal districts of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). According to sources, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliate groups are strengthening their hold, particularly in the Khyber, Kurram, North and South Waziristan, and Bajaur regions near the Durand Line.
Many areas are becoming no-go zones for the army
According to sources, many areas have now become no-go zones for the army. TTP fighters are setting up checkpoints on main roads, including the Peshawar-Khyber Road, the Hangu-Kurram Road, the Bannu-Dera Ismail Khan Road, and parts of Bajaur. Locals reported that militants are checking vehicles, verifying identity cards, and collecting funds in the name of jihad. The TTP's media wing has also released images of fighters manning checkpoints, a symbolic and physical challenge to the government's authority.
Influence Growing in Cities
According to News18, intelligence sources say the TTP is now expanding its control from rural areas to the outskirts of the city. They have established strongholds in the Badaber, Mattani, and Bar Road areas of Peshawar, areas previously under the control of the Frontier Corps and the police. The TTP has turned these locations into semi-permanent logistics and recovery centers, allowing them to store weapons, recruit new fighters, and raise funds for operations.
The withdrawal of police posts in the Khyber-Mohamand belt has increased the threat situation.
The TTP has established shadowy administrative structures. This strategy is similar to the Taliban's Afghan strategy, which first gradually took control of rural areas and then infiltrated main city streets. According to sources, soldiers are hesitant to operate in densely populated areas due to the risk of high casualties and locals supporting the TTP. Many Punjabi soldiers have refused to deploy to these volatile areas, forcing the army to rely more on defensive surveillance.
The biggest internal security crisis in KPK
Sources say the current situation in KPK is the most serious internal security crisis for Pakistan in recent years. TTP fighters are now openly roaming the streets, distributing pamphlets and collecting funds, blurring the lines between insurgency and state control. This is a warning sign of weakening control over Pakistan's northwestern borders.
