Alejandro Garnacho is delighted for Marcus Rashford after he became the first Manchester United exile to escape the club this summer. Rashford completed his loan move to Barcelona on Wednesday, who have the option to sign him permanently, meaning his time at United may have come to an end.
The 27-year-old has not played for United since December, having fallen out with Ruben Amorim, and joins Barca following a loan spell at Aston Villa. He had been placed in the so-called ‘bomb squad’ at United by Amorim, with the club’s unwanted players forced to train by themselves at Carrington.
Rashford, Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia have been frozen out by the United manager until they find a new club. While Rashford’s move is only a season-long loan, Barca have the option to make it permanent for €30million (£26m).
He is delighted to have sealed his dream move to Spain and fellow outcast Garnacho clearly feels the same. Writing underneath one of Rashford’s many Instagram posts on Wednesday, the Argentina international said: "Lets goooooo” with two saluting emojis.

Garnachois waiting for his own exit to materialise after Napoli pulled out of a deal. Having initially set his asking price at £70m, United have slashed their valuation to £40m as they court interest from the likes of Chelsea and Villa.
He wasn’t the only United player to get involved on social media, with captain Bruno Fernandes and forward Joshua Zirkzee liking posts and Zirkzee writing: “Good luck brother” with fingers crossed and heart emojis. Former United goalkeeper David de Gea also added a like on one post.
Rashford is keen to move on from United, where he had previously spent his entire career, coming through the academy to score 138 goals in 426 appearances. “The situation with United is the club is in a period of change and they have been for a while,” he said.
“I don’t have anything bad to say about Manchester United as it has been an important part not only in my career but my life.
“I was grateful for the opportunity to play for them. But football is like life – not everything goes as simply as you thought and this is my next chapter. I’m fully focused on this and trying to improve myself and helping the team win trophies.”
He added: “I was clear on my preference from the beginning. It didn’t work out in January so I went to Aston Villa and enjoyed a good period there. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to play there. The summer came around very quickly, it was time to make another decision. My choice was easy. It’s a family club, something I’m used to from my past.
“I want to win the biggest trophies and feel like Barcelona is a huge club in the football world so it is the perfect place,” Rashford said. “You see with the team last season, they have a young ambitious team and I want to add my qualities, my personality, improve the team and help them win.
“It’s a club where people’s dreams come true and they win big prizes. And what the club stands for really means a lot to me as well. It feels like home and this is a big factor in my choice to come here.”
