Emmerdale star 'leaves ITV soap after just one year' ahead of huge life change

Send Push

Emmerdale star Georgia Jay is reportedly leaving the ITV soap after just a year as Steph Miligan - however, fans don't need to panic just yet.

Georgia arrived in Emmerdale as the daughter of Ruby Fox-Miliganlast year and has been involved in some of the soap's most explosive storylines over the last few months. Viewers have watched as Steph discovered that she was the product of her mother's sexual abuse at the hands of her horrific father Anthony.

Now, Georgia is set to leave the ITV soap as she heads of maternity leave, having announced in June that was expecting her first child. A source told The Sun that the soap are thrilled for her and "can't wait to see her back" in Emmerdale when she's ready.

They added: "Steph’s exit will happen in the next few weeks and see her flee abroad in typically dramatic fashion.

"But with Anthony’s body still out there, there’s a huge storyline still to be wrapped up for when she returns."

The Mirror has reached out to Georgia Jay's representative for comment. ITV declined to comment.

Back in June, Georgia took to Instagram to confirm that she was pregnant with her first child. Alongside a professional photo of her cradling her baby bump, she wrote: "As you’ve probably guessed, I’ve got some news to share!

"I know some of you have been wondering if you’ve been seeing a little bump on screen lately… well, it’s not your imagination... I’m having a baby!

"We’ve never been so excited and a little nervous all at once. Thank you for all the love and support."

Georgia's co-stars flooded the comments with congratulatory messages, with Michelle Hardwick - who plays Vanessa Woodfield - writing: "Beautiful Mama."

Meanwhile, Lisa Riley said: "You absolute beauty….. BUMPALISHOUS BABY!!!!" While Danny Miller said: "What?!!!!!!!"

Last week, a soap insider predicted that Emmerdale had already 'let slip' how killer John Sugden would be found out.

"Time is running out for John, and it's his own doing. He's already made mistakes aplenty, almost exposing his fake heroism along the way but no one has been keeping an eye on him - that is until now," they said.

"Robert is like a dog with a bone, and he's not going to let this go. While he doesn't know exactly what he's dealing with just yet, he knows something's up - and he could well put two and two together very soon."

They added: "The teaser about Paddy is pretty telling. There has to be some significance to the fact a guilt-ridden John is constantly turning to helplines to appease his guilt, and Paddy himself has volunteered for one such helpline.

"Perhaps the soap is teasing us all, wanting us to think John's downfall is set. But we're willing to bet Paddy will at some point come across a call with John, or hear a fellow volunteer do as such."
