Wolves are preparing to offer Jacob Strand Larsen a new contract after rejecting two bids from Newcastle. Offers of £50m and £55m were made for Strand Larsen, 22, but Wolves turned down both, prompting Newcastle to switch their attention to Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
The Norwegian striker only joined Wolves permanently for £23m at the start of the summer, having been on loan from Celta Vigo last season. Strand Larsen informed the Molineux hierarchy that he wanted to sign for Newcastle but Wolves had no intention of letting him go, especially so late in the window.
Wolves had already been forced to sell Matheus Cunha to Manchester United after they triggered his £62.5m release clause. Rayan Ait-Nouri also joined Manchester City for £31m plus £5.3m in add-ons.
Their departures have given Wolves the financial clout to draw up a new deal for Strand Larsen, who scored 14 goals in 38 games last season and has netted twice this term. BBC Sport report that Wolves are due to open contract talks soon.
Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi spoke about the decision to keep Strand Larsen and expects him to move on from his disapproval at not joining Newcastle. "[We] never considered selling him in the window. He is a very good boy, very honest and also very generous," Shi explained.

"I have no doubts about him. Sometimes in the market every person has some chance in their career but I believe he will forget about it and commit to the team.
"We had a very good conversation with him. After he comes back from some small injuries he will be ready. I'm sure he will score a lot.
"Jorgen is one of the most important players in the squad. He scored 14 goals and I hope he can score 20 goals this season. Hopefully he can improve to become a top striker in the league and the world."

Strand Larsen was forced to pull out of the Norway squad due to a minor Achilles injury which forced him to miss Saturday's 3-2 loss at home to Everton in the Premier League. Norway boss Stale Solbakken had backed the 25-year-old to 'fit well' at Newcastle.
"I haven't spoken to Jorgen but this is a dream situation for him He plays in the Premier League anyway and suits both clubs," Solbakken said ahead of the international break.
"Newcastle play mostly with one striker and put in a lot of crosses and have wingers with pace. So, he will probably fit well. But he also fits well at Wolves. They also play a type of football that suits him."
