We're all familiar with the concept of a spring clean, but what about giving your home a thorough scrub in autumn and winter?
A cleaning guru has shared that there are ten items you should be sprucing up every season, and not enough people are aware of them. Certain things in your house need a seasonal refresh, rather than just waiting for an annual spring clean.
Christy, who is known to her 99,000 TikTok followers as Christy's CleanTok, stated that there are 10 items in your home that should be cleaned to "start the new season on a fresh note".
- I drove two hours to eat at James Martin's restaurant and was gobsmacked when bill came
- Bananas stay fresh for weeks and won't go brown if stored with 1 household item
Topping her list are windows, which she advises should be cleaned both inside and outside your home at the start of each season.
Next, Christy emphasised the importance of cleaning the extractor fan as autumn approaches. While it's easy to overlook the vents, often out of sight and above our line of vision, it's crucial not to neglect them, reports the Express.
Christy removes the vents, gives them a good wash in the sink, dries them, and then reattaches them to the fan.
The third item on her list is your mattress - simply washing your bedding isn't sufficient. To clean her mattress each season, Christy strips off the bedding and washes it at 60 degrees, then sprinkles baking soda onto the mattress.
After letting it sit for 30 minutes, she vacuums it off and airs out the mattress before adding fresh bedding.
Now is the ideal time to give your fridge a thorough clean, considering it's used daily. Christy suggests wiping down the shelves before removing them and all compartments for a good wash in the sink.
She also advises steaming curtains and blinds each season, cleaning the dishwasher filter, wiping down skirting boards, clearing out behind and under your sofa and other furniture, and ensuring your kettle is descaled.
Any upholstered items, such as your settee, fabric headboards, or armchairs, will also need a deep clean. To achieve this, Christy hoovers it first then soaks a microfibre cloth in a cleaning solution which she wraps around a saucepan lid to create the perfect cleaning tool.
She then scrubs this all over the fabric before allowing it to dry.
Christy also shares additional cleaning tips on her page, including how often you should replace certain household items. For example, she recommends changing washing up sponges every fortnight as they harbour bacteria, and that loo brushes need to be replaced with new ones every six months.
