Low Pressure Likely In 48 Hours, To Trigger Very Heavy Rain In Odisha From Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to pound many parts of Odisha in next few days as a low-pressure area is building gup in the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday that a low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 13.

Under its influence, rainfall activity is expected to intensify in different parts of the state from Tuesday. The IMD has issued orange and yellow warning for different areas up to the morning of August 16.

During the next 24 hours, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri. Yellow warning has been issued for these districts.

On August 12-13, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for some places of Koraput, and Malkangiri districts.

Similarly, yellow warning has been issued about heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal districts.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir.

On August 13-14, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, and Koraput.

Likewise, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam. Yellow warning has been issued for these districts.

Squally wind with wind speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely along and off south Odisha coasts on August 13 and along and off Odisha coasts during August 14 and 15.

Sea condition is likely to be rough and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off south Odisha coasts from August 13 to 14.
