CNN host abruptly cuts off guest in the middle of breaking Donald Trump news

host Abby Phillip brought an abrupt halt to proceedings during a breaking news announcement about on her Newsnight programme. Abby was joined by conservative political strategist Scott Jennings, a former George W. Bush employee, who was clearly in support of the US president's radical approach to diplomacy and tariffs.

Across the bottom of the screen, a strapline read: ": Trump touts foreign policy that GOP once criticised Obama over." And speaking on the show, Scott said: "What is remarkable is that, you've alluded to it, he has remade the Republican Party's orthodoxy on several issues. I mean, it's no small thing. I think whether it's on trade, whether it's on issues of war and peace, it's not just the policy, it's also the language.

"I mean, the party had been a hawkish party. We spoke hawkishly. We acted hawkishly at times. Trump speaks of peace before he speaks of war - not that he's averse to lighting up our enemies when it matters, ask the Houthi rebels! - but he has reset the language of the Republican Party in a way that's not the same language as Bush, it's not the same language as Reagan, and I do believe he cares what's in the best interest of the United States.

"I think the political reset that occurred is that all the intervention, all the war and intervention happening around the world, a lot of American people - Republican and Democrat - came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it, and is there a better way and do we have to be hemmed in?"

He was abruptly cut off by Abby, who said: "Okay, quick question" - and was accused of suffering from 'Trump derangement syndrome'. Shark Tank star Kevin O'Leary confronted Phillip on her show when panellists became upset the president plans to accept a gift of a $400million jet from Qatar.

Despite the ethical concerns of receiving gifts from foreign governments, O'Leary was keen to support Trump's desires, arguing: "What does this have to do with Middle East policy? What does this have to do with the fact that he is trying to create a circle of friendship with the fastest growing geographies in the world before does?"

Phillip said: "Kevin, the United States constitution would like to have a word. That's why people care, because the reason that that's in the Constitution is to prevent the president of the United States from accepting things that are being perceived as bribes."

O'Leary snapped: "Abby you have to distance yourself from Trump Derangement Syndrome. It's irrelevant to policy. It doesn't matter!"
