Wheeler Dealer star Mike Brewer has recently been hit with a huge blow after he was forced to close his beloved used car business after 15 years. The star ranted and raved over Sir Keir Starmer's Labour government, blaming them for spiralling costs before the company closure.
The used car dealership, based in Sheffield, will shut at the cost of 60 jobs. The statement posted on the dealership's website on last week said: "After many successful years in business, we have made the difficult decision to close Mike Brewer Motors. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our customers for their loyalty and support over the years. We are incredibly proud of the reputation we've built together." Additionally, talking to Car Dealer Magazine, he said: "Unfortunately, because of the government - as it's heavily staffed that business - it's meant that it is untenable to run any more, what with the government's new taxation on staff.
"The onus is on the business owner and the market out there is really strong for competitiveness and you need to be really keen on your pricing to be able to sell high volume cars like we do out of Mike Brewer Motors, so we've taken the tough decision that we're going to have to wind that business down - we can't keep it going.
"We're losing money and it's all due to the government and what they've done recently with taxation."
However, his current dealership, One Automotive, based in Warwick, is not affected by the closure. He runs this business with his wife, Michelle, who he has been married to since 1992 and shares one daughter with, called Chloe.
Mike tends to keep Chloe out of the spotlight. But there has been the rare occasion where he has shared her achievements with the world, like back in 2018 when he posted a photo of her graduation.
He wrote next to the sweet snap: "Proud dad alert! Congratulations Chloe Nicole Brewer on your graduation. Me and Michelle Brewer are so proud of you!"
Meanwhile, his wife Michelle sometimes likes to share the spotlight with him. Being a motoring enthusiast herself, she often appears on her husband's Wheeler Dealer podcast.
Speaking on a special episode of his podcast celebrating Wheeler Dealers 20th anniversary, in 2023, Mike shared how his job sometimes impacts his marriage.
He said: "I've literally dedicated my life - 26 years actually - dedicated to this craft. And I feel like it's given me an amazing life but it's also come at the cost of my marriage.
"[We're] still together, [she's] never held me back once. But there comes a time when I look and I think, maybe I should spend more time with my wife? She drives me mad but I love being with her."
At the time, Mike also addressed his future of presenting and motoring. He hinted at "retirement" as he said he may start to "wind down his career" to spend more time with his family.
The presenter explained: "As much as I love making the show - I'm not resigning - but everything has a sell-by date."
