Where was The Witcher season 4 filmed?

Send Push

The enchanting fantasy series, The Witcher, is back for its fourth season on Netflix, and fans can actually visit some of the magical places shown in the series.

Following the Continent-altering events of last season, our heroes Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge, they stumble upon unexpected allies eager to join their journey.

As the characters are seen travelling further than ever before, fans will be wondering just where the production chose to film. Opting against heavy use of CGI, the show chose several stunning real world locations to stand in for The Continent.

But where was The Witcher season four filmed? Here's everything you need to know.

According to fan site Redanian Intelligence, which keeps up to date with all things in the world of The Witcher across television, movies, books and video games, there are number of notable locations , reports the Mirror.

Some of them seem to be new places used specifically for season four and they include beauty hotspots found in the UK that viewers will be able to visit themselves.

The Crystal Grotto at Painshill Park.

One location that many may instantly recognise is the surroundings of Painshill Park in Cobham, Surrey. This breathtaking 18th-century garden, with walks that feel as though you've stepped into a painting, was constructed by politician Charles Hamilton between 1738 and 1773.

The park boasts a crystal grotto, a gothic tower, and its very own vineyard.

In particular, the show is expected to utilise the crystal grotto. Described on the Painshill Park website as 'magical', this naturalistic cave features shimmering, bubbling water, rough rock and stalactites adorned with sparkling crystals.

It remains unclear what role it will play in The Witcher. Perhaps it could be a meeting place for Geralt and an elf.

The grotto is open to visitors throughout the year, although it typically closes on Mondays.

Llanberis Lake.

Liam Hemsworth, who is taking over the role of Geralt from season four, was spotted filming several scenes in Wales. This includes Llanberis Lake, along with the nearby quarry and Dolbadarn Castle.

Fake boulders were seen stockpiled in the Gwynedd village while the castle was closed off to the public during filming. The popular Llyn Padarn beauty spot of Y Glyn, commonly known as the Lagoons, was also partially taken over by crews who erected large black screens to prevent spoilers being spotted by passers-by.

North Wales Live reported a "fake" forest was assembled at Y Glyn using conifers trucked to the site. A popular lakeside footpath, towards Cwm-y-Glo, was closed for up to a month and one man walking it claimed he was tailed by security guards.

Devon.

The series is also reported to have taken advantage of some of the views found in Devon. Primarily, vistas spotted at the Haytor Quarry and Haytor Rocks.

Puzzlewood.

There have been numerous scenes already taking place within woods and forests in The Witcher and season four will be no different. As Geralt travels with his friends, he is expected to travel across lands featuring dense trees.

One place chosen to show this is Puzzlewood in Gloucestershire. This spot has also served as inspiration for fantasy author J.R.R. Tolkien as well as a filming location for film franchises such as Harry Potter and Star Wars.

The Witcher is streaming on Netflix.
