Jaipur: City police arrested seven persons Tuesday for allegedly producing and selling fake goods under the labels of popular consumer brands Surf Excel and Maheshwari Tea. The action followed a detailed investigation that led to the seizure of packaging material, counterfeit products, and machinery used in the illicit trade in the Vishvakarma Industrial (VKI) area.
DCP (West) Amit Kumar said police discovered an illegal unit manufacturing counterfeit washing powder and tea. Three machines used in the production of counterfeit washing powder were seized from the site.
"Police recovered 54 packaging rolls of Surf Excel, 2,600 empty pouches of 500 grams, 700 pouches of 1 kg, 17 plastic bags filled with 1-kg packets, nine bags containing 500-gram packets, and 51 bags of 80-gram packets—including 18 found inside a loading tempo," Kumar said. He said additional fake packaging materials included empty plastic bags for Surf Excel, seven bags of Rose Gold branded tea, and 20 packets of Maheshwari Tea (250 grams), along with packaging for 500-gram and 250-gram variants. Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the distribution channels of the fake goods.
Police identified the accused as Govind Sharma (42), Kesar Singh alias Monu (34), Tejpal Saini (20), Lakhan Singh (24), Satpal Singh alias Pintu (38), Mukesh Kumar (27), and Vijendra Singh (30).
