BHILWARA: In an incident that has sparked outrage on social media, two teenage cousins from Rajasthan's Bhilwara district were allegedly subjected to severe torture, including electric shocks, by their employers at an ice-cream shop in Chhattisgarh's Korba, for desiring to quit job after their request for an advance payment of Rs 20,000 was rejected.
An FIR in the matter was registered at Bhilwara's Gulabpura police station Thursday.
The employers, on the other hand, have accused the cousins of theft, a claim that adds another layer of complexity to the case. The police in both Bhilwara and Korba are coordinating to address the allegations and ensure a thorough investigation.
Abhishek Bhambi and Vinod Bhambi, both aged around 18 and residents of Kaniya and Kaliyas villages in Bhilwara district, claim they began working at the shop on Feb 12 and were promised a monthly salary of Rs10,000 along with meals.
However, their request for an advance to cover a vehicle installment allegedly incited the wrath of their employers on April 14. "Around 11pm that night, they beat us, gave us electric shocks and even pulled our nails in the shop at Korba," Abhishek claimed Friday.
The situation escalated to the point where Abhishek and Vinod fled back to their village, where they disclosed their harrowing experience to their families. Their relatives promptly filed a complaint at the Gulabpura police station in Bhilwara.
The incident gained widespread attention after video footages of the assault went viral on social media platforms, prompting authorities to take swift action.
The accused employers, identified as Chotu Gurjar from Bherukheda village in Bhilwara and Mukesh Sharma from Chittorgarh, have countered these allegations by accusing the cousins of theft, police said.
Gulabpura police station in-charge Hanuman Singh confirmed Friday that the case has been transferred to Korba's Civil Line police station for further investigation. "We have emailed the FIR copy and sent a hard copy to the Civil Line police station in Korba," Singh said. The Civil Line police station has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and initiated an investigation, the police officer added.
