Veteran actress Neena Gupta sparked controversy with her previous remarks on feminism being 'faltu'. She has since clarified her stance, emphasizing the importance of women being strong internally. Additionally, she complained that being born a woman can be a 'curse', given the societal hardships they frequently endure.
Sharing Her Thoughts on Feminism and Safety
During an interview with Lilly Singh on her YouTube channel, Neena Gupta expressed her hesitation to make any controversial statements. She criticized social media for distorting her words and taking them out of context. When given another opportunity to share her thoughts on feminism, Gupta defined it as women being strong internally. However, when asked what she hoped for women in India today, the actress responded with disappointment, stating that her aspirations were impossible.
She said, “What I want is not possible. I want them to be safe, but it’s not possible. They say educate women. If you educate them, they will want to do a job, and if they do a job, they are r*ped. I feel it is a curse to be born a woman, especially a poor woman. The situation is so sad, I have goosebumps."
"How can I say optimistic things when I know the real situation? It’s a curse. What happens to women in jhuggi-jhopdis? I want a solution, but I can’t think of a solution,” she further added.
Previous Controversy Over Feminism
Last year, while talking to Ranveer Allahbadia, the actress said, “I want to say that it’s not necessary to believe in ‘faltu feminism’ or the idea that ‘women are equal to men.’ Instead, focus on achieving financial independence and giving attention to your work."
Upcoming Projects
On April 3, the makers announced 'Panchayat Season 4', which stars Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, and more. The series will debut on Amazon Prime Video on July 2.
