Following their comfortable win, MI moved to 16 points and ensured Delhi Capitals will not leapfrog them even if they lose their last league stage game against Punjab Kings. DC remain on 13 points after their 13th match in the IPL. They, too, will finish their IPL league stage campaign against PBKS. However, nothing will ride on that match anymore.
While the top four teams are decided a week before the league stage draws to a close on May 27, the battle for top-two places remains alive. The teams that finish in the top-two get two opportunities to qualify for the final.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings are both on 17 points each and can muster 21 points if they win their remaining two matches. The race for the top-two places will, thus, go much deeper.
