NEW DELHI: The Punjab Police on Monday arrested two Pakistani spies for allegedly being in touch with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and passing on security-related information. The police noted that they were activated after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
"Gurdaspur police have busted a module which leaked secret information to Pakistan. Two people have been arrested... They leaked secret information of our security forces in Himachal and J&K... People involved in such activities are Pakistani spies. They have betrayed our nation," DIG border range Satinder Singh said.
"They were in direct touch with the ISI. The ISI made them active after the Pahalgam attack ... One lakh rupees were also transferred to their accounts. Both of them are from Gurdaspur... Both of them are aged 19-20 years. They are also involved in drugs... They have been sharing information for the last 15-20 days," he added.
A case has been registered against them under the Official Secrets Act at the Dorangala police station in Gurdaspur.
The arrest comes amid major crackdown of espionage related cases, categorically related to Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
The clampdown includes a high-profile arrest with YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra being taken into custody over charges of espionage. Another alleged operative of ISI was arrested in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday by the state’s Special Task Force (STF).
