Several new details about 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez , the suspected shooter of two Israeli diplomats, have emerged linking him to a radical Left-wing group that spearheaded the Black Lives Matter protests. A Newsweek report claimed that Rodriguez appeared to have made a donation to Joe Biden's campaign in 2020.
The reports cited a Federal Election Commission filing and said that a person with the same name and belonging to the same neighborhood as the shooter donated $500 to Biden on March 11, 2020. It is not confirmed by the police whether they are the same person but there are indications as the details match.
Motive behind Capital Jewish Museum shooting
A lengthy manifesto has surfaced, apparently belonging to Rodriguez that says murders were the only sane thing to do.. His link to the Party for Socialism and Liberation -- a far-Left group has also been confirmed. The group distanced itself from the shooting but confirmed that Rodriguez had a brief association with one branch of the party but it ended in 2017.
FBI agents stormed the Chicago apartment where Rodriguez stayed. “FBI Chicago is conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity in the Chicago area in relation to yesterday’s tragic shooting in Washington, DC,” the FBI Washington field office confirmed in a post on X.
"Elias Rodriguez is Hispanic, born in Chicago. But he was completely radicalized by socialism and Islamic propaganda. His profile flags were those of Islamic countries and his beliefs were those of Hamas. It’s important to understand how deep Palestinian propaganda penetrates, how dangerous it is," one wrote on X.
Sarah Lynn Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky, a young couple who were soon to be engaged, were killed in the shooting outside the Jewish museum. They both worked at the embassy and attended a networking event.
Metropolitan Police Department chief Pamela Smith said officers "have not had any prior interactions" with the suspect, who is from Chicago, and did not see anything in his background "that would have placed him on our radar". Eyewitnesses said Rodriguez shot the young couple very calmly.
