Final Deadline Approaches for LG Smartphone Users to Install Updates

LG Electronics has officially confirmed that it will shut down all Android update servers on June 30, 2025, marking the final chapter in its exit from the smartphone business. This move will end over-the-air (OTA) software updates, including support via the LG Bridge PC tool, for all LG mobile devices still in circulation.

The company initially announced its departure from the smartphone industry in April 2021 but pledged to continue limited software and security updates for its existing devices. That commitment is now concluding.

End of Software Support for All LG Smartphones

LG’s official notice, translated and reformatted for clarity, reads:

“Termination of service: LG Electronics mobile phone software upgrade (FOTA), update center (App service), LG Bridge service (PC Tool).

Applicable products: All LG Electronics mobile phone products.

Termination date: June 30, 2025, 00:00 [Korea time, GMT+9].

After this date, no software upgrade service, including service center updates, will be provided.”

The announcement, originally made public on April 10, 2025, was recently highlighted by Android Authority. LG also cautioned that once the update center and app services are shut down, users will no longer be able to re-download default apps lost during device resets or factory initializations.

What LG Smartphone Owners Need to Know

With the end of update services imminent, LG urges remaining users to upgrade their device software before June 30. After that, no security patches, OS upgrades, or system app updates will be available.

While active LG smartphone usage has drastically declined since the company’s market exit, millions of devices are believed to still be in circulation globally, either in limited use or stored away.
