New Delhi, April 17, 2025 — The Indian stock market opened under pressure on Thursday, with both Sensex and Nifty slipping into the red amid early selling pressure. Although some signs of recovery were seen in the initial 30 minutes of trading, profit-booking and renewed selling dragged the indices lower again.

The BSE Sensex opened at 76,968.02, down 76.27 points, and briefly slipped to 76,665.77 during early trade. It recovered to 77,099.10, but could not sustain the gains as fresh selling emerged. By 10:15 AM, the Sensex was trading 191.20 points lower at 76,853.09.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty 50 started the session 35.35 points lower at 23,401.85, hitting a low of 23,298.55 before rebounding to 23,434.60. However, renewed selling pressure pushed the index back down to 23,350.45, reflecting a decline of 86.75 points by 10:15 AM.

Among major gainers in the first hour of trade were:

These stocks rose between 0.73% and 1.92%.
